Two emails to President Obama, regarding the Public Health Insurance Option he promised America
===========================
Email #1 - August 17, 2009
===========================
Dear President Obama,
Please do not drop the Public Option. Doing so would be a handout to the Private Insurance companies and rewards their bad behavior, such as denying coverage to those with pre-existing conditions, etc.
People need health insurance that is portable and does not rely on the whims of their employers. People are held captive by their source of health insurance right now, and dropping the Public Option thereby fixes nothing.
Please do not offer Co-ops as a replacement for the Public Option. Right now the Republicans are talking about Co-ops positively, but believe me: Frank Luntz is digging up old films of 1960s hippies - everyone knows "dirty hippies" are members of Co-ops and Communes.
Mark my words: Republicans are praying that "co-ops" are what Democrats are going to offer to America. Imagine Sean Hannity saying, "Remember bean sprouts and the Earth Shoe? Well another throwback to the late 1960s is coming back: the co-op! Maybe Communes are next. And no, they're not ALL Communists who live in communes. There are also poets and radicals."
Finally, I am disappointed that Democrats are not going to give the people what the people put them in office for - Health Insurance Reform. This sounds a lot like how the Republicans do things: "Vote for us and we will eliminate abortion, welfare, gay marriage, and illegal immigration." But the Republicans never follow through.
The Democrats in office right now will find a surprise come Primary time, when true Progressives are voted in their stead, should they vote for a bill which does not have the Public Option in it.
Signed,

Email #2 - August 18, 2009
===========================
Dear Mr. President,
As a followup to my email from last night...
America needs health insurance which is:
1) Portable
2) Affordable
3) Offered regardless of pre-existing conditions
I do not see any Private Insurance company offering 2) or 3).
Please do not buckle to the Republicans' demands, Mr President. It will not win you any Republican votes in the House or Senate, anyway. We do not need Republican votes to get a Public Option through the Senate: Democrats have 60 seats and need to be unified behind the wishes of the country. We don't even need 60 seats - just 50 plus Vice President Biden - but no one seems to remember that except Senator Sanders.
Mr President - People are ailing and dying right now because they are denied health insurance! The longer Congress waits, the more people will die from lack of coverage. More people will get dropped from Private Insurance when their condition becomes too expensive. More people will wait until a condition becomes unbearable and will be forced to go to the Emergency Room. Think about it, Mr President - people are dying right now due to Democrats' weakness and desires for "bi-partisanship".
It is inconceivable that we are forced to pay for "Emergency Room Health Care" but won't provide people with good, affordable, portable health insurance so people can get *preventive* care.
I am sick of Harry Reid and the White House - buckling to the Republicans all the time. The Republicans start kicking the wall and wailing, and Harry Reid and the Press run up to them and say "What happened? What have the big bad Liberals done to you now???"
If you buckle on the Public Option, then I will be convinced that you are just another politician protecting his campaign donors - the Private Health Insurance lobby and the Pharmaceutical lobby.
God speed making the Public Option a reality.
Signed,
