Liberal Talk Radio - Ignored By Big-Money Democrats?
It is well-known in Central Ohio radio circles that WVKO AM and FM are for sale. The asking prices are a bit higher than "normal", because the previous owners of WVKO took out a huge mortgage on the place, and that mortgage payback is included in the price of the station(s).
That being said, $1.5 million sounds like it is in the ballpark [for WVKO AM 1580 alone], and I am surprised that no local, rich Democrats have stepped up and purchased the AM station, to preserve Progressive Talk's presence in Central Ohio. If a "hostile takeover" of 1580 AM occurs, then I can only assume that the rich Democrats in Central Ohio don't think WVKO is worth keeping around.
I mean, come on ... $1.5 million for a 24/7/365 commercial for Progressive causes and organizations ... that's 59 cents per minute for 5 years. Commercials on WTVN (610 AM) go for something like $300
per minute. And just doing the math ... the purported $1,500,000 selling price is paid off in 5 years, at $25,000 per month.
I sure hope the rich, local Democrats are not simply thinking, "NPR News (WOSU 820 AM) already fills that niche." NPR is *not* Progressive Talk. NPR doesn't confront the big issues head-on, because they want to appear "unbiased" to their Congressional funders. NPR also bends over backwards to accommodate non-Progressive points of view, because otherwise they get accused of using *all* the taxpayers' dollars to promote a point of view not shared by *all* the taxpayers.
Surely some rich Democrats could band together and make $25,000/month happen. That is, unless the Progressive Talk voice is not considered necessary to counteract the propaganda being spewed out on the AM dial by Rush, Hannity, Ingraham, Savage, etc.
