The Democrats: The Party of Ideas

When Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry ran in 2004, his campaign was characterized as "Vote for me: I'm not George Bush." Being the "anti-candidate" is only enough to get you 51%, if that. Republicans (and many Democrats) were asking, "But what are Kerry's IDEAS?"

Democrats need to pretty much ignore the Republicans, especially in campaigning for the upcoming 2008 elections. Democrats need to say:

"Our agenda is

1) To find a safe way to exit Iraq,
2) To mend fences with the rest of the world,
3) To provide health insurance for all,
4) To fix trade agreements to help the US worker,
5) To repair and improve the US infrastructure,
6) To finally bring real relief to New Orleans,
7) To return to an education system which is cost-effective and which makes sense,
8) And to eliminate our dependence on foreign sources of energy, and to invest in alternative fuels."

These eight items should be hammered home every time a Democrat speaks. You know what the Republicans will say is the way to fix any and all of the above eight items? "Tax cuts are the answer to all our problems." The thing is, "tax cuts" are the answer to all the Republicans' corporate buddies' problems ... not the answer to America's problems.

If Democrats need to say ANYTHING about Republicans, here it is:

"Republicans want to keep us in a perpetual war, controlled by fear, so they can funnel our tax dollars to their rich corporate cronies, who will kick back payments to the money-loving Republicans. Make no mistake: continuing to keep Republicans in power will make you poorer, will kill or cripple your family, and will ruin America."
