Don't Let DC Beltway Insiders Get You Down, Activists!
I decided, at the end of my bike ride just now, that I am not going to act like a fucking thin-skinned primadonna and let Gibbs's and Emmanuel's comments bother me. If they think that I'm "fucking retarded" or "high on drugs" for thinking that e.g. single-payer healthcare is do-able, with the majorities in Congress, and with a mandate from the masses, then that's THEIR problem, not mine. They can think whatever they goddamn please. The masses don't know Gibss and Emmanuel said these things - only WE do.
Right now, as a Democratic activist, I am much more concerned about the wavering Democrats and centrists who watch CNN and Morning Joe and The View and who just don't know whom to vote for. It's not Democrats vs Republicans, it's Corporatists vs We The People and it's up to me and to us to be motivated and to give hope and direction TO those masses.
If people in this comment space want to grouse and to wallow in self-pity that Gibbs and Emmanuel aren't kissing our asses, then I guess those people just care more about their hurt feelings than the direction this country COULD be going. Sure it's short-sighted for those Presidential advisers/spokespeople to wave their hand and say "The professional left will not let Republicans win." But the Democratic Executive Branch and Legislative Branch was not elected by leftist activists alone - they were elected by centrists and Republicans eager for a change from the Bush Bullshit.
I'm not going to let Emmanuel's and Gibbs's lack of focus affect MY focus. So go and kick the dog if you want. I am going to knock on doors and smile and say, "We're not there yet, but we're on our way. Let's keep moving forward. Let's show the Corporatist, Republican, BlueDog, love-of-money-and-uncertainty powers-that-be that we are not finished, that we are not discouraged, and that we are on our way. We are not letting the perfect be the enemy of the good."
(Now flame away. I can take it. I love this country, and all the diverse opinions in it. And I am going to keep walking the righetous path, not sit down next to it and weep!)
