President Obama's call for Bipartisanship
President Obama explained why he is so Hopey-Bipartisaney: he is waiting for Republicans to realize that they will want to align themselves to a popular Democratic President, in order to get re-elected. He said in his Republican Meeting, "In fact, the Republican candidate for the Governor of Illinois is running ads right now, where he says he agrees with the President. Poor guy," (wry grin from Obama).
The thing is, if you're not a "popular ... President", no one is going to want to align themselves with you. And right now you become popular by getting things done, and kicking some asses if you have to. Kick their asses NOW ... get more popular ... and they'll come back with, "All is forgiven. Endorse me."
You will get more popular with Congressional Republicans and Corporatist Democrats if you first become real unpopular with them. It's like a Chinese Finger Puzzle: in order to get your fingers apart, first you have to move them closer together. It seems counter-intuitive, but it works.
