The Power of Prisons
Even though we tend to think of Republicans/Corporatists as single-mindedly money-hungry, I think they are willing to make less money as long as they get to vilify brown people.
Instead of taxing legalized pot, and emptying the prisons of their non-violent pot-convicted inmates, thus saving money not having to house those prisoners, the Republicans/Corporatists have decided it is more "valuable" to keep those dangerous brown-skinned law-breakers behind bars ... where they obviously belong, because they 'broke the law".
< snark >
Abolish the drug possession laws, and those browns will be able to walk around in decent society. Unthinkable!
