Your "Liberal Media"

I've been thinking about the fact that approval ratings for President Bush are hovering at 30%. People, when polled, will choose an unnamed Democratic candidate for President in 2008 over an unnamed Republican President. In spite of these numbers, radio programs like Rush Limbaugh, and TV networks like FOX News, which constantly bash Democrats, still pull in huge numbers of listeners, and still draw big advertisers. It seems that at some point the advertiser backing of these outlets should start pulling out. At some point they will, but I'll bet they're quietly setting up shop in other "Democratic-friendly" media outlets.

I am no journalism major, but as long as those with money want to keep up the facade of right-wing lies on "News" networks like FOX News, the facade will stand. I caught Citizen Kane again last week on TCM. Charlie Kane kept putting out made-up news in order to increase his circulation through sensationalism. He was funding it all himself. Eventually it all came crashing down.

But here's the thing: those who want to keep people deceived KNOW that people will come to mistrust the FOX Newses of the industry, and will start turning to "more reliable" sources of news. Thus, when people turn from FOX in disgust, and turn to CNN (the "Clinton News Network"), they'll find Suzanne Malveaux (who totally smeared Pelosi on her recent trip to Syria) and Glenn Beck. The unknowing masses will then say, "Hey, the 'liberal media' *also* doesn't like the Democrats. Except for Olbermann and that crazy Jack Cafferty."

Even sweet, girl-next-door Katie Couric thinks John Edwards is wrong for not staying home with his ailing wife, rather than running for President. Katie's on CBS, but she came from NBC, which is owned by the General Electric War Machine. Oh, and ABC totally smeared Clinton with "Path to 911" and swift-boated Kerry. Let's also not forget that horribly disgusting "The Point" by Mark Hyman on Sinclair's many TV stations.

I have been turning to C-SPAN more and more to get my news. I'm sure the Charlie Kanes of the media world would ask me, "Whom do you believe? ... me or your lying eyes?"

William Kristol sat in for Charlie Rose at least once on PBS. If that's not the "Liberal Media" saying "Look, look! We've put these right-wingers on the air. Are we still liberal? Please inform us when we're not liberal anymore." The right wing will just keep saying, "Still too liberal. Try harder to be more balanced."
